ELECTROPOLLUTION AND HEALTH
A growing body of solid science points to concerning connections between electropollution and health. Studies suggest this fast-growing type of pollution can have very specific effects within our bodies and may lead to a wide variety of short-term and long- term health problems, even at levels of exposure well below current safety standards.
Since 1990, there has been unprecedented growth of a variety of chronic diseases and conditions in the United States and beyond, including autoimmune, inflammatory, and neurological diseases; metabolic disorders; and chronic health conditions such as headaches/migraines, sleep disorders, fibromyalgia, and fatigue. Fertility issues, reproductive problems, and birth defects are also on the rise.
What is causing this increased incidence of “germless” health conditions? A growing body of evidence suggests that our increased exposure to electropollution may be one important contributing factor.

What Experts Have To Say
In 2007 and again in 2012, a group of international scientists and public health professionals jointly published the BIOINITIATIVE REPORT in an effort to alert the public to possible risks of technologies that emit electromagnetic radiation (EMR). The report cites thousands of scientific studies that associate low-level exposures to radio frequency radiation, microwave radiation, and other forms of electro-pollution with dozens of diseases and biological effects in humans, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), autism, male infertility, miscarriage, insomnia, allergic and inflammatory responses, heart palpitations and arrhythmias, memory loss, concentration/attention issues, and more.
In 2001 and 2011 respectively, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer designated extremely low frequency EMF and radiofrequency EMF (including microwaves) as possible human carcinogens.
Experts studying the connections between electropollution and health believe that much more protective safety standards related to EMR emissions are necessary. They also believe that individuals should take a proactive role in reducing their exposure to all types of potentially harmful electromagnetic energy.
REDUCING CHRONIC EXPOSURE TO EMF POLLUTION IS IMPORTANT TO HEALTH!
Learn about types of EMF pollution and how to reduce your exposure.
Dirty Electricity
Dirty electricity (a.k.a. dirty power, electrical noise, line noise, power line EMI) refers to spikes and surges of electrical energy traveling along power lines and building wiring where only standard 50/60-Hertz AC electricity should be. This type of EMF pollution is created by many modern electronics, appliances, and lighting solutions that must change or manipulate standard electrical current in one way or another in order to operate. Once created, dirty electricity circulates throughout buildings, and even between buildings via wiring, power lines, and other means.
Wireless Radiation
Wireless radiation refers to the electromagnetic fields (EMF) emitted by equipment and devices that send and receive information wirelessly. This type of EMF pollution has increased dramatically in recent years as cordless phones, smart phones, tablet computers, WiFi and Mi-MAX networks, and a myriad of other wireless devices have become popular in homes, schools, and businesses. All of these devices send information through the air rather than wires, creating a “cloud” of artificial electromagnetic energy around us.
AC Electric Fields (ELF)
Power frequency AC electric fields are the extremely low frequency electric fields emitted by items that distribute or use standard 50/60 Hz AC (alternating current) electricity. These fields are produced by VOLTAGE, which is the force or pressure that helps push electrical current through power lines, wires (circuits), cords, etc. They are present even when electrical current is NOT flowing. For example, a lamp cord that is plugged into an outlet will emit an electric field even when the lamp is turned off. The electric fields will go away only after the lamp cord is unplugged.
AC Magnetic Fields (ELF)
Power frequency AC magnetic fields are the extremely low frequency magnetic fields emitted by items that distribute or use standard 50/60 Hz AC (alternating current) electricity. These fields are produced by the FLOW of ELECTRICAL CURRENT. Unlike AC electric fields, they are present only when current is actually flowing. For example, a hair dryer that is plugged into an outlet and turned ON will emit both AC electric and magnetic fields. When the hair dryer is switched off, current flow to the dryer stops, and the magnetic field goes away. The electric field, which is caused by voltage rather than current flow, will remain until the hair dryer is unplugged from the outlet.
